Swimming pool water usage and cost

It is nice to have a garden swimming pool and watch the small (and not so small) children playing.

Of course, there is a cost associated to purchase a swimming pool which it is relatively not that high if the swimming pool is frequently in use.

But, the water cost has to be also taken in consideration because depending on everyone’s personal situation, it may be worth to start looking to ways on how to save water and reduce the water bill costs.

How much does swimming pool water cost

If you are considering to purchase a swimming pool or if you already have one, on the manufacturer’s website you should be able to find out the water capacity.

swimming pool water usage

We are paying to our water provider 2 euro per every cubic meter of water we consume.

If we were to purchase a swimming pool with a 10220 liters capacity, we need to consider that every time we were to fill up the pool it would cost us around 20 euro on water.

10220 liters / 1000 = 10,220 cubic meters of water

10,220 cubic meters x 2 euro per cubic meter = 29,44 euro to fill up the pool

Once you know the water capacity of the swimming pool, this calculator can be used to estimate the yearly water cost.

For example:

> If a swimming pool has a capacity of 10220 liters

> We refill it 3 times a years

> We are paying 1.3 euro (or pounds, or dollars, or…) per cubic meter

The swimming pool would add around 40 euro (or pounds, or dollars, or…) to our water bill.

The importance of water conservation

Water conservation can be defined as the decision and the act of using less water

Water conservation both benefit you and the environment

The act of saving and conserving water does benefit you because you will be paying less on your water bills.

And it also does benefit the environment because conserving water prevents any unnecessary waste of natural resources.

Now, at individual level it may not look worth to try to save a few litres or gallons here or there.

Still, every little counts and if hundreds or thousands of us do save a little every time, it will make an important contribution towards conserving our natural resources.

Water conservation calculator

If we could reduce our swimming pools water usage, even a very small amount, it would make a big impact on preserving our natural resources.

For example, if 9000 households would manage to save as little as 5 liters of water per day:

> Collectively, we would be saving over 16,000,000 liters of water per year!

> Collectively, assuming a cost of 2 euro per cubic meter of water, we would be saving nearly 33,000 euro per year!

It is clear that small water savings do really count when looking into the bigger picture.
